Whats in my Make Up Bag?

Carolines Make Up

I sent my celebrity makeup artist, Sarah Maxwell Beauty (@sarahmaxwellbeauty), shopping for me in Beverly Hills last week for makeup. Its been a long time since I bought new make up and shopping for it drives me crazy because I don’t know what products work best for my skin type, especially when combining different products. I have used the same products since I worked on television and have never been bothered to change my routine.

This time, I got the experts involved. It’s best to have someone who has worked with you and knows what suits your complexion. So off Sarah went, about $400 later this is what she came back with! Let it be known, Sarah has had to show me how to use all these products and I asked Sarah for a “go to look”- something simple that I know looks amazing. We tested the whole selection on me this week in Los Angeles creating my amazing LA look. This is everything we have been using:

Foundation

An absolute must. I have always used Tom Ford but Sarah has bought:

HOUR GLASS VANISH™ SEAMLESS FINISH FOUNDATION STICK

This retails at about $46 and is available worldwide from Sephora. It won “Best Foundation” in the InStyle Readers Choice and basically is a foundation stick with the coverage of a concealer, the fluidity of a liquid, and the weightlessness of a powder in a longwearing waterproof formula.

Hourglass Make Up

Concealer

Cannot live without concealer. Concealer is my biggest beauty hack. Just put it everywhere.

NARS RADIANT
CREAMY CONCEALER

$30. What can I say! Another award-winning product. It is a multi-action concealer that contours, highlights, corrects, and perfects with creamy, medium-to-buildable coverage and a natural radiant finish available in 30 different tones. Available just in any decent make up shop.

Nars Make Up

Finisher

Sarah has gone with skin perfecting micro-powder by Charlotte Tilbury- a UK makeup artist who was raised in Ibiza. Charlotte is all about the red carpet make up looks but wants makeup that is easy to choose and easy to use: perfect for me!

AIRBRUSH
FLAWLESS
FINISH

Clocking in at about $40 and available in lots of different shades.  Not so easy to find outside of the UK, in the US its available in Nordstrom. Also available online.

Bronzers

Not quite sure why, but Sarah came back with two bronzers for me: Number one, an old time favourite, number two, something new!

BOBBI BROWN
BRONZER

$50 in most places, I’ve used this for years- maybe Sarah was trying not scare me with not so many new products. LOL. I also quite like the shimmer bricks by Bobbi Brown, especially in summer.

Bobbi Brown Make Up

TOO FACED
CHOCOLATE SOLEIL
MATTE BRONZER

This bronzer actually smells like chocolate. It is made from 100% natural cocoa power and is long lasting.

A little cheaper than Bobbi Brown at $30.

Two Faced Make Up

Highlighter

Gives that healthy summer glow all year round!

BECCA SHIMMERING
SKIN PERFECTOR®
PRESSED HIGHLIGHER
CHAMPAGNE POP

I have been told to use this as a blush or a bronzer topper. This tone is a soft gold with a peachy- pink pearl. Retails at $38 also not the easiest to find outside of the US.

Brows

The first product for my brows comes from the brow queen herself: Anastasia of Beverly Hills and it’s a brow definer.

ANASTASIA
BROW DEFINER

Available in 10 colours and its formula features a perfect balance of wax and pigment for easy blending and flawless application. The pencil has three distinct sides for detailing, defining and filling in brows. Not expensive at $23 but an absolute essential in any make up bag.

BENEFIT GIMME BROW +
BROW VOLUMISING GEL

This will make even the skinniest brows look full! It costs $24 and available absolutely everywhere.

Its slightly tinted and contains tiny microfibers that adhere to skin & hairs, creating natural-looking fullness and definition. The custom tiny, tapered brush provides easy, mess-proof application.

Benefit Make Up

Eye Palette

URBAN DECAY – ON THE RUN LIMITED EDITION
SHORT CUT

This limited edition is an eight-shade eyeshadow palette that highlights blush-tone neutrals that play well with a rose hue and a chocolate matte. It then has a coppery pink transformer shade, which adds a little ice to any look. Sarah has said you need to start with the matte colours and then layer up with the metallics. These particular colours really bring out the blue in my eyes so I love the combination of them. Very reasonably priced at $24 and available everywhere too….the only problem is it’s a limited edition, may need stock up.

Urban Decay Make Up

Mascara

I’m laughing at this next product because it makes a very big claim saying its better than sex- I actually think who ever came up with that is just not having sex with the right person…anyway….it’s also from Too Faced:

TOO FACED – BETTER THAN SEX WATERPROOF MASCARA

Not only is this mascara waterproof but it is even sweat proof so you can even wear it to the gym: It says it has porcelain flower extract that are supposed to moisturize and condition your lashes.

$24

Too Faced Make Up

Lips

Two essentials for lips, a gloss and a lip liner.

PAT MCGRATH LABS
LUST GLOSS

Available in 30 different colours but I’m using the one called Aphrodisiac. $28, so its not the cheapest gloss around but the colour looks great.

Pat McGrath Make Up

BUXOM PLUMPLINE
LIP LINER

This is the ultimate shortcut to fuller, sexier lips. It comes with a built-in brush so you can easily define, contour and fill lips. Available in 20 stunning shades with a smooth matte finish. Perfect base before putting on a fab gloss to give the final pop! $24.

Buxom Make Up

And there you have my complete collection of go to make up. In total, we spent $381 which is just over $1 a day to have the absolute most perfect ready to go look for the next year! Thank you Sarah! xxxx
